The City Of (2017)

For the University of Salford's 50th anniversary in 2017, I was commissioned to explore and photograph local areas alongside students who were born or raised in Salford.

To embed the body of work in the place, I chose to use river Irwell’s water as part of the darkroom chemistry that was used to bring the latent film photographs to life. Irwell itself has a troublesome and problematic history, but it is undoubtedly linked to the making of the city.

A selection of the photographs has been included by the University of Salford in the community-engagement book The City Of - A Salford Collection to accompany short texts and poems from the people of Salford.
