Sent from Chiajna (2015)

This work is documenting a typical new Romanian suburb built in an open field just outside Bucharest, in the village of Chiajna. Because of the ambiguous laws the developers are not bound to respect an architectural template so mid-rise buildings of all shapes and colours appeared over night. The majority of population are young families and students who choose to live in new buildings outside of the congested city* rather than in the older communist flats of Bucharest, which are often more expensive. Because of the high demand, the field became more and more crowded and with no green spaces, no parking lots and a questionable infrastructure the small community seems destined to fail long term.

*Bucharest ranks 6th in the world / 2nd in Europe for traffic congestion, according to TomTom traffic index 2016
